Current status: Payments run through Stripe in test mode. Use a test card — real cards are not accepted and no real money moves. Nothing in this section creates an obligation to pay us real money while that remains the case. It describes the model the Service implements.
We charge a service fee on each rental:
- the renter pays 5% of the rental subtotal, added on top and shown as “Service fee” before they commit;
- the owner has 5% of the rental subtotal withheld from their payout.
Rentals agreed before a fee change keep the fees they were agreed under. The figures above apply to new rentals; the price breakdown on any individual rental is the one that governs it.
Neither fee is ever charged on a deposit. A deposit is the renter's own money and taking a cut of it would mean returning less than was put up.
All prices are shown in US dollars and calculated on our servers from the listing and the dates requested. A price submitted by a browser is never trusted. The quote is snapshotted onto the request when it is created, so what you agreed to is what you are charged.
When card payments are enabled, we place an authorisation hold covering the rental, the renter's fee and the deposit when a request is accepted. The hold settles for the non-deposit portion when the rental completes; the deposit portion is released rather than captured, except for a damage claim the renter accepted or did not answer within the stated window. Card details are entered on our payment processor's hosted pages and never reach our servers. See Cancellations, Deposits & Refunds for what happens in each outcome, including how claims work.
You authorise us to keep that hold alive and to collect what is due. A card authorisation lapses after about a week, so for a rental booked ahead we may replace the hold with a fresh one on your saved card — at handoff, your bank may ask you to confirm it. If a hold has lapsed by the time a rental completes, we charge your saved card for the amount due — the same amount the hold would have settled for, never more. Either way you are charged once, and only what the accepted quote (plus any agreed or unanswered damage claim) adds up to.
We may change our fees. Changes take effect for rentals requested after we publish them, never retroactively for a rental already accepted.
Each of you is responsible for your own taxes. Owners are responsible for income, sales, rental and use taxes on what they earn. We may be required to report earnings to tax authorities and to collect a taxpayer identification number before paying out.
